Construction of our first project – an integrated plant producing green hydrogen, green iron and green steel – is well underway in Boden, Sweden. Role
We are looking for a skilled Mechanic to join our Mill-wide Services team at Stegra Boden. This role is critical in ensuring the safe, reliable operation of our cranes, lifting equipment, and packaging machines. As part of our maintenance team, you will report to the Daytime Manager and perform preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement tasks to support production efficiency.
Key Accountabilities
- Perform routine and corrective mechanical maintenance on cranes, lifting equipment, and related systems to minimize downtime.
- Inspect and repair mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems to ensure efficient operations.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electromechanical components for smooth production flow.
- Support operators and technicians to identify areas for improvement and implement effective solutions.
- Train and guide team members on maintenance tasks, promoting skill development.
- Ensure safety compliance by following Lock Out, Tag Out (LOTO) procedures and using proper PPE.
- Maintain high housekeeping standards to promote a safe working environment.
- Role model for promoting a strong safety culture while coaching and mentoring less experienced colleagues.
Qualifications
- Vocational or high school diploma in a mechanical field, with strong maintenance knowledge.
- Welding certificate and/or crane operator license highly sought.
- Valid safety certifications relevant to working at heights and handling heavy equipment.
Experience
- Significant experience from similar role within heavy industry, such as steel mills, manufacturing, or mining.
- Familiarity with relevant industry regulations and standards.
- Knowledgeable in the correct application and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

- Organized, independent, and detail-oriented with a collaborative approach.
- Ability to work at heights and be physically fit to carry tools and parts upstairs when accessing cranes located in high positions.
- Have adequate vision, with no vision impairment (e.g. colorblindness)
- Proficiency in English; Swedish language skills are advantageous.
