About us:
Stegra, formerly know as H2 Green Steel, is on a mission to disrupt the global steel industry by producing green steel, with the end goal of bringing down CO2 emissions to zero. By using green hydrogen and fossil-free electricity instead of coal; water and heat will be our primary emissions. By 2030, our ambition is to produce 5 million tonnes of green steel annually in our fully integrated, digitalized, and sustainable plant in Boden, located in northern Sweden - currently in construction phase. But this is just the beginning – our expertise in green hydrogen will enable us to decarbonize other industries in addition to steel, and we look forward to what’s next in store for us.

DCS Engineer – DRI plant.
As a DCS Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in optimizing and managing the Distributed Control Systems (DCS) for our DRI plant operations. You’ll focus on enhancing control strategies, system performance, and driving operational excellence through data-driven insights. This role will have you leading safety compliance initiatives, system upgrades, and integrating innovative technologies to improve processes. You’ll also ensure smooth plant startups, shutdowns, and effective management of plant abnormalities.
You will be part of our upcoming Boden plant, that is nearing completion with its impressive 145-meter direct reduction tower. We’re leading the charge in transforming iron ore into sponge iron for our steel products and offering hot briquetted iron for greener, sustainable production. Responsibilities
For this role we are looking for candidates that feel comfortable using their problem-solving and analytical skills to contribute to the company. Responsibilities are (but not limited to):
- Review and validate Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) for alignment with engineering standards and operational goals.
- Provide technical support for Distributed Control System (DCS) programming, logic design, and troubleshooting to ensure system integrity and process efficiency.
- Lead and participate in Process Hazards Analysis (PHA), root cause analysis (RCA), and risk assessments.
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (OHSMS), Permit to Work (PTW), and Lock Out Tag Out (LOTOTO) systems
- Implement data-driven recommendations to enhance operational performance and cost efficiency.
- Facilitate technical training and mentoring for operations and junior staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
Qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical, Metallurgical) or equivalent.
- Extensive experience in the field (preferably gained from working as the DCS
- Engineer in a gas based DRI Plant which produces both HBI & HDRI or similar products.)
- Extensive experience in Oxide startup, trouble shooting and trouble handling in different adverse plant operation scenario.
- In-depth knowledge of DCS architecture, programming and configuration.
- Experience in ISO systems 9001/14001/45001.
Competences and skills:
- Exemplary technical writing ability.
- Proficiency in control strategies, logic development, and system integration.
- Effective communication and strong interpersonal skills.
- Flexible to new ideas and approaches, maintaining an encouraging attitude toward colleagues and team members.
Location: Boden, Sweden
We are looking for people available to start between June and August 2025. We are open for candidates that are able to relocate before or around June till August 2025.
