Founded in 2020, Stegra (formerly H2 Green Steel) was created with the purpose to decarbonize hard-to-abate industries. Construction of our first project – an integrated plant producing green hydrogen, green iron, and green steel – is well underway in Boden, Sweden. Role
We are looking for skilled and experienced Process Operators to join our Steel Plant Operations Team. In this role, you will operate and maintain essential equipment within the Caster production area, working on a rotating shift schedule. You’ll play a key part in maintaining a safe, efficient, and high-quality production environment, directly supporting our operational goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Take responsibility to contribute to a safe work environment, actively participating in the development and upkeep of process control and safety practices as well a robust safety culture.
- Work as part of a shift team in a hot and dusty environment, cooperating with maintenance colleagues to ensure safe operating as well as stable production conditions.
- Control and operate the equipment and processes in the casting production area, while adhering to safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
- Assist team members with daily operations and participate in rotation of work duties in order to develop a broad competence within the shift team. Evolve and perform on several positions including pourer, caster or controller.
- Use central control panels and field instruments to control and adjust process parameters in a time critical environment.
- Be responsible of providing online process and material data which includes documentation of operation events as well as standard operating procedures.
- Operate safely near or with overhead cranes and any other auxiliary equipment (crane license desirable)
- Ensure efficient storage and handling of consumable materials needed for daily production (Forklift license desirable)
- Take proper action when having failures and deviations affecting the production (i.e. by performing oxygen lancing, flame cutting or grinding) while also reporting these incidents in a sustainable fashion.
- Work with continuous improvement for the shift team and collaborate closely with other production operators to improve casting efficiency.
- Assist maintenance team members in downtimes or disruption phases.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent in a relevant field preferred.
- Hot Works certificate.
- Workplace safety certifications (e.g., OSHA, Confined Space, Working at Heights).
- Additional certifications (e.g., crane, welding, forklift) are a plus.
Experience
- Extensive relevant heavy industry production experience, preferable from steelmaking, mining, foundry, forging and/or milling.
- Experience operating equipment and making self-based decisions in a time critical/ high stress environment.
- Experience with work subjected to dust and heat.
- Experience operating under limited supervision in non-routine situations.
- Experience of developing work methods and manuals.
- Experience with casting and secondary metallurgy is highly beneficial.
- Experience with Meltshop equipment (EAF, AC/DC, High Power Furnace) for which in-depth, complex training was required, is beneficial.
- Military/Firefighter experience is beneficial.
