Stegra, formerly know as H2 Green Steel, is on a mission to disrupt the global steel industry by producing green steel, with the end goal of bringing down CO2 emissions to zero. By using green hydrogen and fossil-free electricity instead of coal; water and heat will be our primary emissions. By 2030, our ambition is to produce 5 million tonnes of green steel annually in our fully integrated, digitalized, and sustainable plant in Boden, located in northern Sweden - currently in construction phase. Shift Manager EAF/Meltshop
The shift manager for the EAF/Meltshop is responsible for overseeing and managing activities during their assigned shift to ensure smooth operations. This role upholds safety, quality, and performance standards while leading a team and coordinating with various departments to achieve operational goals. The role ensures tasks are executed effectively, supports cross-functional collaboration, and maintains seamless communication for continuous production and schedule adherence.
The Shift Manager for the EAF/Meltshop oversees daily EAF operations, ensuring production targets for volume, quality, scheduling, and cost are consistently met.
Responsibilities:
- Lead, guide, and mentor a team that may include process operators, mechanics, electricians, and instrument and automation technicians, fostering a positive, high-performance, and safe work environment.
- Lead, teach and mentor the team to increase overall performance in safety, quality, production and cost. This includes but not limited to processes that require use of scrap and iron ore raw materials, refractory, electrodes, electricity, water, natural gas, oxygen.
- Allocate resources and manage staffing to efficiently meet operational demands, optimizing team performance and minimizing downtime.
- Plan and distribute work, ensuring the team has the necessary tools, spare parts, and knowledge to complete tasks effectively from the start.
- Ensure team adherence to safety protocols, conduct regular checks, enforce personal protective equipment (PPE) use, and uphold quality standards. Address any safety issues promptly, escalating unresolved matters to higher-level management.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the steel making plant. Ensure that production targets are met in terms of volume, quality, schedule and cost control.
- Maintain high standards of quality in the product. Ensure that all SMP process parameters are within the required expectations and specifications.
- Collaborate and lead maintenance team to minimize downtime and performing unexpected maintenance to avoid disruption of scheduled operations.
- Identifying problems and analyzing or reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options to choose the most appropriate solution in a short amount of time.
- Use proper communication tools so that others understand what is needed/required clearly to avoid downtime, address safety concerns or meet quality requirements.
Qualifications:
- Gymnasium diploma in relevant field is preferred. A bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy or Process Engineering, or another related field, is a plus but not mandatory. Equivalent qualifications in related fields will also be considered.
- Experience from steel production in any production role within EAF/meltshop, scrap or refractories.
- 2+ years of leadership experience, meritable with previous experience as a Shift Manager.
- Solid knowledge of metallurgical processes, preferably in EAF/meltshop
- Experience with safety protocols in heavy industrial environments.
- Good process knowledge and knowledge of the department's technical equipment and safety procedures.
- Fluent in English. Basic Swedish skills are seen as a plus.

- Comfortable working at heights.
- Ability to work in a hot and dusty environment.
